RE: Revenue Agent Searching for Montana llc's

I was wondering because I had heard last year that a couple of states were trying to get records from Montana and I think Texas was one of them. At that time Montana was not cooperating. If that story was true it's hard to imagine why Montana wouldn't want to cooperate. It doesn't sound like Montana gains a whole lot when a resident of another state registers a motorhome with an LLC set up in Montana.

RE: Revenue Agent Searching for Montana llc's

I get a big kick out of this subject for a lot of reasons. Foremost among them is my strong feelings about the Montana LLC issue. I also enjoy watching how debates of this length evolve and take on a life of their own. This particular thread is the most civil of all the previous ones on this subject that I can remember.
The overall level of diplomacy and maturity is commendable. I hope we can keep it alive a while longer.

RE: Revenue Agent Searching for Montana llc's

Is the question about Montana law or is it about other states not enforcing their law?

RE: Revenue Agent Searching for Montana llc's

I like your attitude Aridon.
I was parked for a week beside a Dynasty with Montana plates on it, Michigan plates on the toad, and a painted legend under the RV's passenger door window that said "Susie and John, Grand Rapids, Michigan"(names changed to protect me).
Because I share your attitude about this sort of thing I never talked to them the entire week. It was the least I could do.

RE: Revenue Agent Searching for Montana llc's

why is it that a lot of big corporations incorporate in Delaware?
bumpy
I doubt that they are doing it to avoid paying sales tax.

RE: Revenue Agent Searching for Montana llc's

JALLEN4's post brings up a point I had never considered. Are those with the Montana LLCs who have loans claiming interest deductions on their income tax. If so are they doing it through the LLC or through their personal income tax return. If you can't deduct the interest it would be real hard to see how you would come out ahead as the interest, even on a shorter term loan, is a whole lot more than any state's sales tax.
But then again, I'm just asking.

RE: Florida to Big Bend NP - what's on the way?

I would suspect you have already done quite a bit of research on Big Bend by now. But I did want to address an earlier post about not much to see or do in Big Bend.
We’ve been twice, once in mid March and once over Thanksgiving and we had wonderful weather during both. Those are also the busy times of the year there, but you wouldn't know it because it is never crowded. It can get pretty chilly in the evenings and it rains and, even, snows at the higher elevations occasionally. But the low humidity and the desert scenery makes for some glorious sunsets and some great hiking.
Big Bend is not for you if you want the entertainment to find you. It’s a place where you take your time and look for what it has to offer. We are in our early sixties and plan of going back as often as we can and are planning our next trip with the grandkids. There is much for them to learn there.

RE: Wind in Texas

I don't know of any RV park that is on the beach on South Padre. The biggest one is on the bay side and blowing sand would not be a problem for a short stay. Also, summer winds are no where near as strong as they are in the winter when the generally pick up late afternoon through sunset.

RE: day nite shades have broken

Ours broke while we were camping last Christmas at the Thousand Trials in Claremont, Fl. Found the instructions for restringing on the Internet, but it took about two hours to do it right- I made several mistakes.
On our way out of the park after completing the task I saw a pickup with signs all over it announcing that he repairs blinds. He was camped there and said he covered his camping expenses restringing those blinds. I wish I had known he was there before we started.

RE: 40' Class A-driver without class b-noncommercial DL

First, I do have a class B. Second, I have not heard of any denial of a claim by an insurance company because the driver did not have one. Come to think of it, I wonder what insurance companies do with a claim where a commercial vehicle is operated my a driver without a commercial license. I haven't heard of any denials in those case either, but I have no data on it.
I do know that the aviation insurance providers go out of their way to find ways to deny claims. Not being certified or licensed to operate the aircraft is a big one. Weight and balance is another. Night and IFR currency are also biggies.
All that said, I got the class B to make sure that I wouldn't be denied. It sure wasn't hard to do and in Texas you only have to do it once.

RE: Front TV "off" while driving....Fuse location?

Before you try to disable the cutoff find out if any other systems are disabled through the same circuit.
I had a friendly mechanic bypass ours so the TV would stay on. Heading into to Nashville a couple of months later the awning on the roof, the 8 by 25 foot one that comes straight out, deployed at 65 mph.
There was a lot of damage to the roof and sidewall as well as the awning. The dealer who fixed it discovered that the cut off for the TV was shared by the awning circuit. I guess the helpful mechanic didn't know that.

RE: When does weather cause you to bring in slides?

I didn't put mine in after seeing them flop up and down during a 35, gust to 45, afternoon. When I went to put the slides in, the topper would not retract. The mechanic said that the canvas had been pull out too far and ended up with the canvas on the wrong side of the roller/tensioner.
Next time I will put them in.

RE: Great Reviews - Bad Parks!

steveyj69, did you post a review? If I visit one after seeing reviews that I can't agree with, too good or too bad, that's what I do. When I'm looking for a campground in Trailer Life I always look for reviews and, usually, put an inquiry out on this net.
I haven't had too many surprises doing it that way.

RE: Going to Dayton- Go 146.52

I'm not sure about your rig, but the fundamental principle is that it's all about the antenna on how well it's going to work.
The issue on 146.52 is that the number of folks using it over the road is virtually nil. What I do when I see a call sign license plate is make a call on .52 and hope. I've yet to make a single contact using that of any other tactic. I guess we just have to keep stirring it up.
You also might want to take a look at the openroadsradio, net forum. Join up and learn what's going on with hams and RV's. It's new and non-commercial.
Enjoy your new hobby.

Going to Dayton- Go 146.52

If your going to Dayton think about going simplex.
I've asked around and I've monitored and CQ'd 146.52 for the past year and the useage is almost non-existant.
It could be a great utility for for travelling hams and with so many on the road next week converging on "Mecca" we might just get everyone interested in using a valuable, garbage free version of Channel 19 for the properly certificated. Put something on your vehisle, like Radio Operator plates, that shows your call sign and montior it.

RE: Mounting Ham Radios in Class A

Dons2346, did you make or buy the pale and actuator assembly? Someone here had give my the name of a fellow who made those, but I never got a response from an inquiry I made via the address the maker had at his web site.
I know where to get the actuators, but I don't have the tools to make the plate. I considering a Big SteppIR rig as you have the marine vertical on yours. By the way, you did a very nice job on that installation.

RE: Mini Cooper Toad???

Thanks DarkRubiTJ for your thorough response. I think I'll hold off for the time being. Wife has been pushing me to ditch the Wrangler as she does not like driving it and the mileage is pretty bad. The Mini is a neat concept though.
And by-the-way, the dealer I visited was in a large, north central Texas metropolitan area.
